Our family store

At One Forty we think that retail should be about the touch and feel of the products – it should be about the event of making a special purchase and having a pleasant time doing it.

Our team are all nice people – they know how important you are to One Forty. Part of our national character is to be suspicious of ‘sales’ people, so we’ll always try to help but never get too pushy. If you feel you’re being ignored please let us know – it’s not because we don’t like you!

Our History

Humble Beginnings

Three generations of Grahams have presided over our business, with Ernest Graham (my Grandad) setting up in Lewisham as a Credit Draper between the First and Second World Wars.

Moving to Cranleigh

Dad & Mum (John and Kathleen) moved out to Cranleigh in 1959 and took over a small, slightly shambolic children’s wear shop next to the railway station. Things really started to grow from there, and although the railway is long gone and the name over the door has changed from ‘Grahams’ to ‘One Forty’, family is still at the heart of the business.

A Fresh Start

In 2004 recognising that the UK is flooded with High Streets that contain the same shops, only in a different order, Elaine and I risked our home, reputation and the clothes on our back to create a vibrant store, full of character and really great products. The store is now bigger than ever before and offers a completely different approach to High Street retailing.
